2020 fundraising campaign for Indigenous women in Colombia

After first meeting women from an Arhuaco family in the mountains of northern Colombia in January 2020, we learned about the impressive craft of making traditional bags. This craft is deeply rooted in the culture of the region’s Indigenous peoples and holds great spiritual meaning for them. Today, it is also an important source of income that helps sustain the communities.

To support the community, we launched a fundraising campaign in Austria to buy sheep. The idea was to enable the women to produce their own wool for the bags. A year later, the money raised allowed us to buy four sheep, which we delivered to the families in person. The following photos show the purchase of the sheep and their transport to the families:

A few months later, the first wool could already be gathered from the sheep.
