Computers for schools in Colombia’s mountain villages
Our education project aims to equip schools of the Arhuaco community in the mountain villages of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia with computers. This will help children and young people learn to use computers and digital learning materials and open up new learning opportunities.
To do this, our association nawowa works with the Etnoeducative Bukwinamake school network in Colombia, as well as the Vienna Business School Akademiestraße and the association PCs für alle in Austria. Together with our Austrian partners, we have refurbished a total of 70 complete PC systems. An initial shipment of 15 computers has already arrived.
To reach the remote schools, the computers travel a long way: from Vienna to Hamburg, by ship to Cartagena and then onward to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On the final stretches, they must be carried on foot or by pack animals.
We currently estimate the total project costs at around €5,000, with transport accounting for the largest share. This estimate also allows for possible additional expenses, such as temporary storage before distribution to the schools in the mountains or small items needed for electrical installations.
At nawowa, we work on this project on a voluntary, unpaid basis and have advanced our own funds to cover the costs incurred so far. Your donation helps us cover both the project costs already incurred and those still to come, and bring more computers to the schools.
